Akita International University offers a unique International Liberal Arts approach with a strong commitment to nurture students with practical expertise and specialist knowledge born from a global perspective. Established in 2004, the liberal arts university is the first undergraduate program in Japan to offer all subject matter courses only taught in English. Embracing the global perspective mentality, all AIU degree-speaking students are required to spend one year abroad; as a result visiting students are able to interact with well traveled domestic students, degree-seeking international students as well as other exchange students at their time at AIU.

For more information and student voices please visit AIU's Facebook Page HERE.

AIU guarantees on-campus accommodation for SMC students. SMC students have the opportunity to live with both Japanese and other international students. SMC students will pay their housing fees directly to AIU. AIU also offers students the opportunity to participate in themed housing that allows students to build communities based on similar interests. To learn more about the housing options, visit AIU's residence web page.

For students who wish to have an introduction to Japanese prior to studying abroad please look into taking Japanese at SMC. Introduction Japanese is offered every Fall semester and January Term. See more information: HERE
