Akita International University offers a unique International Liberal Arts approach with a strong commitment to nurture students with practical expertise and specialist knowledge born from a global perspective. Established in 1949, the liberal arts university is the first undergraduate program in Japan to offer all subject matter courses only taught in English. Embracing the global perspective mentality, all AIU degree-speaking students are required to spend one year abroad; as a result visiting students are able to interact with well traveled domestic students, degree-seeking international students as well as other exchange students at their time at AIU.

Housing

AIU will help SMC students secure on-campus accommodation.  SMC students will live with both Japanese and other international students.  SMC students will pay their housing fees directly to AIU. To learn more about the housing options, visit AIU's residence web page.

Language

For students who wish to have an introduction to Japanese prior to studying abroad please look into taking Japanese at SMC. Introduction Japanese is offered every Fall semester and January Term. See more information: HERE
